COVID RESEARCH

For the past 2 years we have been researching the effects of COVID on the PA workforce. This section is dedicated to our work during the pandemic which was funded by the Fellowship.

COVID Report Presented to MMU Students

We were privileged and honoured to be invited to the MMU to be guest lecturers for their Integrated Health and Social Care students. During the lecture Will and Katherine presented some of their findings from the Beyond and Beyond COVID report which was well received. We hope there will be more opportunities to present our findings at other Universities and institutions.

Before and Beyond Covid Report

COVID-19 Research

We are proud recipients of Winston Churchill Covid-19 Action fund

In June 2020 it was announced that we were selected to receive a Winston Churchill Covid Action fund to help us support individual employers and their Pa's during these unprecedented times, through a series of online support calls, online training and research.

We will be carrying out research to assess the impact of COVID on our PA's and IE's across Greater Manchester and come up with a series of proposals to "Bring Back Better". This will involve us interviewing people and carrying out surveys with IE's and PA's. If you would like to be involved in a short interview or provide us with some information then please do drop us a line at ysmbury@gmail.com

The Covid Action Fund will be a 9 month project and already our research is under way and our PA help line has been set up. We have started holding regular PA and IE forums after a successful test in December last year. If you would like to be part of any of these then please do contact us and we can give you the zoom link for you to take part.

Regular updates of how the project is going will be posted here.

Will's Research

As a Winston Churchill Fellow, Will embarked on an enlightening research trip to America and Canada. Here you can read is study learn more about the specialist research YSM has been part of.

Winston Churchill Fellowship

As a former Young Amabassador and a member of the Council for disabled children , Will noticed that the system didn't adequately support young, disabled people and were prevented from leading independent lives.

Will was supported in his mission to improve the lives of disabled people by receiving the Winston Churchill Fellowship, which was awarded to him in 2011.  As a fellow, he was given the opportunity to conduct intense study in the USA and Canada, which saw him speak to hundreds of people and deliver numerous presentations about how services could be improved in the UK.

He discovered that young disabled people in the US were given personalised education plans (the same for non disabled children) at the age of 13 and this is something he wanted to help implement in the UK.

Value and Impact of the Research

Will was given the opportunity to change education plans for disabled children in 2014, when he advised the then Coalition Government on the Education and Health Care Plan  and the Every Child Matters green paper.

One of Will's specialisms is Employment and he was priviledged to have conducted research into enabling employment advocacy rights for the Labour Party. His research paper is held in the Parliamentary Library in the Houses of Parliament.

His research and skills have been influenced many disability organisations nationwide, ensuring best practice wherever he goes including the Care Quality Commission( CQC) and Skills for Care
