Fairer Pay For PA's In Bury

FAIR PAY FOR PA'S IN BURY

5 Year Anniversary of our report into Fair Pay for PA's

It's been 5 years to the day that we released our first piece of research into PA pay across Greater Manchester.  So much has happened but not much has changed for PA's or for Individual Employers.

published back  in May 2019 which you can read by clicking on the button below.

Fair Pay Report

PA's in Bury Aren't Getting a
Fair Deal

PA's provide a vital role in the lives of disabled people, providing support for day-to-day tasks and helping them get out about.

BUT

In Bury, PA's can expect to earn a lot less than in other boroughs of GM. They aren't paid the same hourly rate, or have the same terms and conditions as other PA's. This is discrimination and we want to change it now.

Equalised Pay For All

At present, PA's across GM can expect to earn £10 + an per hour, whereas in Bury, PA's only earn £8 - that's a minimum of £2 less per hour for providing the same level of care as other PA's!

We want to change this by meeting with LA's and the GMCSHO (part of the GMCA) we want to see ALL PA's paid the same.

We will be lobbying local MP's, council leaders and health leads at the GMHSC to make this happen, including Cllr Rishi Shori,  James Frith MP and UNISON BURY.

Keep up to date with this campaign by signing up to regular updates.

Meeting With Bury Council

We are happy to report that YSM met with Julie Gonda from Bury Council on Friday 28th June. It was an incredibly positive meeting and although there is still some way to go there is definitely much to feel optimistic about! Below is a brief outline of some of the things that were agreed:

  • Discrepancies in PA pay will be reviewed asap.
  • YSM will be involved in facilitating a discussion /workshop to review issues and processes with Bury Council
  • Proposing to set up a forum for PA's and IE's so that representatives from Bury Council can meet with people on a regular basis to hear about issues and problems and build up trust with those who are receipt of support.
  • Possible workshop for IE's to help them support PA's which would be held at Bury Council.

REPORT RELEASED!!

Campaign Update

We recently met with James Frith MP, where we discussed the issues facing PA's working in Bury and disabled people requiring PA support in this area.

It was an incredibly positive meeting and we're pleased that James will be supporting our campaign which will hopefully have postive results!

Our meetings with Ivan Lewis MP and Bury Council have been postponed until April and early May to enable us to publish our report on PA pay following our survey that we conducted in March. This will be published this month.
