HATE & MATE CRIME PROJECT

Between 2022 and 2024, The Standing Together fund, supported by Bury Council and GMCA, was managed by Bury VCFA.

Disability hate crime incidents in Bury have risen annually, with a notable increase during the pandemic. This project educated young people from community groups, primary schools, and high schools about disability and hate/mate crimes. We trained personal assistants to support their disabled employers who are victims of hate crimes and coached Tower Family Healthcare staff, including GPs, to identify signs their patients might be experiencing hate or mate crimes.
